The finer details…

Diamante is made by farmers who are members of the Asociacion Aldea Global Jinotega cooperative. The Nicaraguan farmer’s association known as Aldea Global was established in 1992 by a group of 22 small farmers. More than 1,300 farm families, the vast majority of which are members of the Chorotega Indigenous Community, are currently receiving assistance from them. Its goal is to establish itself as one of the most prominent and well-known organisations in Nicaragua that provides assistance to small farmers and the communities in which they live. Aldea Global continues to expand and invest in various programmes for the benefit of its members. These programmes include the development of mobile applications for many aspects of farm management; the provision of real-time soil analysis technology; the distribution of fertilisers and supplies in accordance with the requirements of the soil and crop; and the provision of micro-financing services and social programmes throughout the entire year.  As a direct result of the company’s decision to invest a portion of its revenue in gender equality initiatives focused on healthcare and small business lending, Aldea Global now has more than 500 members, of which 47% are women.
